Three R’s
There are three r’s that must be present in preaching the gospel, if they are absent the gospel is not preached. They are Ruin by sin, Redemption by blood, Regeneration by the Holy Spirit. These three r’s are probably unknown to most, if they are unknown to you, you have never heard the gospel. You may have heard some preaching, you may be religious and even preach or teach, but do you know the three r’s?
1. Ruin by sin, man by nature is a depraved, sinful, unrighteous creature. He loves sin, the scripture says, “man drinks iniquity like water”. Man doesn’t become a sinner when he sins; he sins because he is a sinner? A man doesn’t become a thief when he steals he steals because he is a thief? When and how does a soul become a sinner? “Wherefore, as one man sin entered into the world, and death passed upon all men, for all have sinned” (Rom.5: 12). By Adams transgression all men sinned, when he disobeyed God in the garden, his disobedience became ours, and also his fallen nature. The nature of disobedience, and rebellion. There is no part of a man’s nature that is not infected with sin, his mind, heart, will, affections, his understanding, even his best deeds are called by God; “filthy rags” (Isa.64: 6). Man is so lost, and under the just condemnation of a Holy God, that if God doesn’t save him there is no hope for him.
2. Redemption by Blood, "without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin" (Heb9: 22). Man is a slave to sin and his fallen nature, and the justice of God demands his punishment for sin, which is death. Now how will God’s justice be satisfied, and a sinful soul be set free from the bondageof sin. Man cannot atone for his
sin or anyone elses. For all time and eternity there is only one atonement for sin the Lord Jesus Christ. He was the "lamb slain before the foundation of the world" (Rev13: 8). As the "Lamb of God he came to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself", (Heb.9: 26). Christ, "by his own blood he entered once into the holy place having obtained eternal redemption for us", (Heb.9: 12). Christ bought his people out from under the curse of the law, and from the bondage of sin, and by his death satisfied the justice of God on their behalf. All for whom he shed his blood the very justice of God demands they be set free. He paid the "wages of their sin, death", and no wonder the Apostle said " There is now NO Condemnation to them which are IN Christ Jesus" (Rom.8: 1).
3. Regeneration by the Spirit, man being as sinful as he is, cannot change his nature. "He will not come to Christ", (Jer.13: 23 Jn.5: 40). He is "dead in trespasses and sin", and as he cannot give himself natural life he cannot give himself spiritual life. He must be "quickened" he must be "born again". How does a man "come to Christ"? The Holy Spirit must bring him, must regenerate him, the Holy Spirit gives blind men eyes, deaf men ears, dead sinners life. When this life is given then the sinner is able to believe, and until a sinner is regenerated, he will not come to Christ. Have you been given life from above? Have you come to Christ? The Spirit will regenerate all that have been redeemed by Christ.
